Cinémoi proudly presents an exclusive interview with acclaimed director François Ozon and his leading man, Louis-Ronan Choisy.

Young, beautiful and rich, The Refuge tells of middle-class couple, Mousse (Isabelle Carré) and Louis (Melville Poupaud), both heavily addicted to drugs, who spend their time squatting in one of Louis’ affluent family’s apartments. When the pair overdoses and Louis does not survive, it leaves Mousse alone not only with her grief but also with the knowledge she is pregnant with his child. Upset and confused, not least by Louis’ family’s offers of hush money for an abortion, Mousse flees to the countryside where, after a short time, she is joined by Louis’ brother Paul (Louis-Ronan Choisy).

John-Paul Pryor of Dazed digital talks to the duo about their personal impressions of the story, the issues raised with this being Louis-Ronan’s first role (he is an established pop star in France and wrote the film’s recurring song) to the joys that working with real-life pregnant beauty, Isabelle Carré, brought to the production.

The Refuge is released nation-wide Friday 13 August, courtesy of Artificial Eye.
