Octave (Jean Dujardin) is a bigwig in a Parisian advertising company, who leads an apparently glamourous lifestyle of drugs and one night stands. However, following his break-up with long-time girlfriend and colleague Sophie (Vahina Giocante) and a sobering sales experience highlighting the ethical dearth of his profession, Octave decides to make amends by rebelling against the hand that feeds him.
With 99 Francs, Jan Kounen, director of Blueberry (2004) and Darshan: The Embrace (2005), converges his preferred cinematic theme and style: man’s spiritual quest and action. He turns to Frédéric Beigbeder’s homonymous best-selling book for the subject matter in a film that holds no punches in its satirical attack on the cynical world of advertising and consumer society.
