While staying home &
saving the world.
Earth Day may come just once a year, however it’s becoming more and more important to be conscious of our impact and the choices we make not just on April 22nd, but every single day of the year. Even though our access to Mother Nature is limited these days due to ongoing quarantine, there are still ways that we can support our planet and decisions we can make to help create a better world for us all. Here are 5 fabulous ways to honor our home on this day, and the ones to come.
1) Plant something
Even if you don’t have a yard, there are plenty of ways that you can plant something to make the world a little greener. Container planting is a great option for growing vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, herbs, root vegetables, and lettuce/salad leaves. Avocado and lemon trees are also quite easy to grow, even in a small apartment. Take it a step further by upcycling old bottles to use as the containers for your new garden! Which brings us to our next activity…
2) Upcycle something
Spend the afternoon turning a few old T-shirts into a new dress a’la Marinne Serre (pictured above) or reupholstering a stool with an old sweater. Upcycle That lists countless ideas and materials you can use to create something fabulous, including the sweater stool!
3) Donate to an organization
Supportting scientific research and environmental advocacy by donating to a nonprofit is a great way to show your support for the planet. Be sure to spend some time doing research on which causes and organizations you feel passionate about to find one where your donation will go the farthest.

4) Shop smart
If you study up on the supply chain of a product to help you better understand it’s impact, you never know what you might find. Learning about everything from who made the product to how it’s packaged and if it’s ethical or not will surely have an influence on whether or not you invest. The look pictured above is created from upcycled plastic actively taken out of the ocean and turned into timeless designs by the team behind Ecoalf. Supporting brands that have an element of giving back is a way we can all contribute consciously in our daily lives. Another tip is to replace plastic with glass, cloth or other natural material in order to help reduce waste.
5) Watch CinéGreen
CinéGreen is the perfect mix of education, inspiration and entertainment to empower you on Earth Day. Catch a free screening of ‘HOME’ by Yann Arthus Bertrand on YouTube and be astonished by stunning aerial footage from 54 countries. Get lost in series like ‘Destination Wild’, which takes you on a journey deep into natural habitats filled with awe-inspiring scenery and creatures, or ‘The Cheetah Diaries’ which follows the lives of these amazing big cats in the wild.
