Lucie Aubrac

Claude Berri’s film is based on the real life of its titular character. Lucie Aubrac was a heroine of the Resistance during the Second World War, who has become a figure of national pride and a household name in France ever since.

1943: Lucie and Raymond Aubrac, living in Lyon with their young son, are both members of the Resistance. Following Raymond’s arrest for a black market charge, Lucie uses her wits to secure his release in time for their anniversary, a date they hold sacred. Raymond is put in charge of the northern zone by the Resistance leader Jean Moulin. However, with informants, the French police and the Gestapo lurking at almost every corner, it is a matter of time before he is captured once more. Lucie must spring into action again and draw on every resource available if she hopes to save her family.

One of the great figures of French cinema, with a career as a director, producer, writer and actor spanning almost 50 years, Claude Berri delivers another sublime work in Lucie Aubrac. His eye for historical detail is as keen as it was in his internationally successful Jean de Florette/Manon des sources series, as Berri once again proves his capacity to capture the spirit of his nation like no other can.
