Nurse Josette has had enough of her adulterous lover Doctor Mavial’s false promises. In an act of vengeance, she reveals that 12 years ago she swapped the tags of two babies he had delivered from two very different families: the bourgeois, God-fearing Quesnoys and the vulgar, poor Groseilles. They must now all live with the consequences.

Étienne Chatiliez’s debut is a laugh out loud affair, which enjoyed huge commercial success in France and has gained cult status ever since. Moreover, the satirical insights it offers into the social milieus and political situations of the time led to its four César awards, including ‘Best First Feature’. Look out for a legendary comic scene of musical preaching like you’ve never seen before.
