Cinémoi Spotlight: The Tree

Director Julie Bertucelli (Since Otar Left) joins Cinémoi to discuss her deeply affecting new film The Tree. The story follows a mother and her children who cope with the death of their father through feeling his spirit imbued in a gigantic tree beside their house in rural Australia. The tree becomes increasingly invasive and there are threats to cut it down, much to the horror of the children. Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist, The Science of Sleep) gives a tremendous performance as the mother trying to cope with her own grief together with her children’s denial of their father’s death.
