Jean-Paul Salome (Les femmes de l'ombre, Arsène Lupin) adapts Arthur Bernède’s popular 1927 tale of a vengeful ghost, which inspired a TV miniseries in 1965 and a daily comic strip. Noted Egyptologist Glenda Spencer (Julie Christie) discovers that artefacts at Paris’ renowned Louvre museum contain a ghostly spirit, much to the distress of Museum curator Faussier (Jean-Francois Balmer). Lisa (played by a very gauche Sophie Marceau) becomes possessed by the spirit of Belphégor and sets about his wish to steal the rare Egyptian treasures on display. It's up to the revered but retired detective Verlac (Michel Serrault) to find out why the museum's collection is shrinking. For the curious who have always wanted to know what the Louvre is like behind the scenes at night, be sure to tune in as this was the first feature film to shoot inside the world-famous museum.
