In the forth instalment of the Antoine Doinel series, the homonymous character is now married to Christine (Claude Jade).

The couple live in Paris, within a very communal courtyard. Christine gives violin lessons while Antoine dyes and sells flowers. However, the trials of adulthood, such as money, children and adultery soon disrupt their carefree existence.

A bittersweet portrayal of the vagrancies of love, Bed and Board examines with a keen eye the highs and lows of a young married couple’s experience. The film’s direct and frank approach would inspire many others when depicting the various stages of a relationship, most notably Woody Allen in Annie Hall.
