Cannes Festival

The history of French cinema is inextricably linked to that of the most famous film festival in the world, known to one and all by the name of its host city: Cannes.

The 2011 winners were announced on 22nd May 2011. Once again the cast of directors had a very international feel; France being the most represented country with 3 entries from Bertrand Bonello, Alain Cavalier and Maiwenn. Just one American, the veteran director Terence Malick, and one Brit, Lynne Ramsay, were present in a list that includes 2000 Palme D'Or winner Lars Von Trier and Cannes favourite Pedro Almodovar.
