Fashion shows are usually produced for the industry as opposed to the public. Thus, if you’re not a member of the press,  a buyer, a socialite, celebrity or a very loyal customer of the brand, it can prove quite difficult to get on the list, but that doesn’t mean it’s totally impossible.  Here are some tips to help you get into shows during fashion week:

#1- Do your research

You’ll want to know everything from the show dates to which PR companies are managing the guest lists. Fashion Week Online is a great resource for the fashion week schedule with most dates listed for New York, London, Milan & Paris fashion weeks, and even Miami Swim Week, Men’s and Bridal. Having a direct contact as opposed to using the general email to rsvp will also prove to be helpful. Considering the general emails get bombarded with requests, it will help you stand out to contact someone directly. Look on the company website or even Linkedin so you can find the right person to get in touch with. Reach out to the publicist(s) – or even to the designer directly- about 3 months before the show starts, since most shows will have limited seats and you’ll want to get your request for tickets in early. If you don’t hear back a month before the show, send a follow up email.

#2- Keep it considerate

It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice. A little kindness goes a long way, even at fashion week. If you are kind and polite when you’re contacting people and perhaps even invite the publicist or designer to another event, your chances of being on their list will most likely improve.

#3- Let your style shine

It is fashion week, after all, so dressing the part is critical and unless you’re a pro at walking in heels, so are comfy shoes! You can scour Pinterest or flip through glossies all day for fashion inspiration, but most importantly, just be yourself! Your style also goes beyond your outfit of the day as well, so be sure to utilize your personality. A simple conversation can lead to a lot of open doors, so don’t be afraid to work it!
